Men's golf set to swing into action at the A-Sun Championship

BRASELTON, Ga. –  The Lipscomb men’s golf team is set to swing back into action at the 36th Atlantic Sun Men’s Golf Championship on Easter Sunday at The Legends Course at The Chateau Élan Golf Club.

The tournament is a 54-hole event with 18 holes being played Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Each round will begin at 8 a.m.

The Legends Course is a par-72 that stretches over a 6,781-yard layout.

Four of the 10 participating A-Sun teams enter the championship rank inside the top 60 in the latest Golfstat Rankings, with Mercer rating the highest at No. 28.

Lipscomb had a successful 2013-14 campaign collecting two wins at the Murray State Invitational in October and the Grover Page Classic in March. It was the first wins for Lipscomb since the 2008 season.

Head coach Will Brewer has decided to take two freshmen, two juniors and a lone senior to Braselton in search of an A-Sun crown. The five stick swingers have combined for eight top 10 finishes and one overall medalist this season.

Dustin Wilder has competed in 18 rounds during his senior campaign with a 76.1 stroke average. Wilder finished 10th at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invite with a three-round total of 219 (+3).

Paul Kleine-Kracht is averaging 75.5 in 21 rounds. His eighth place finish at the Grover Page Classic was his highest finish after shooting a one-over par 217.

After being plagued with injury during the fall season, junior Caston Roberts has come on strong in the spring with two top five finishes. Roberts collected the lone individual victory for the Bisons after carding rounds of 70-68-71 (-7) in the Grover Page Classic and was awarded A-Sun Co-Golfer of the week after his performance.

Stoney Crouch has a 75.3 average over 21 rounds of play and had an eighth place finish at the Grover Page Classic after shooting one-over par, 217.

In 30 rounds, Sydney Chung has a team-leading 74.6 stroke average. Chung’s second-place finish in the Grover Page Classic after shooting two-under par 214 was his best finish in his freshman campaign.

Lipscomb finished eighth in the A-Sun Championship in 2013 after shooting a three-round team total of 929. Wilder finished as the top Bison in the event with a 226 over 54 holes and finished in ninth. Kleine-Kracht placed 32nd with a total of 234.

North Florida is the reigning A-Sun Champion after taking the crown in back-to-back seasons. Every year since becoming a member of the A-Sun, UNF has finished inside the top three.

North Florida's MJ Maguire returns to defend his individual title.

The A-Sun had a very successful year on the links, ranking among the nation’s conference leaders in total wins at 14.
