Second-round surge moves men's golf to ninth at UALR

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Lipscomb men’s golf team rallied in Monday’s second round of the 2015 First Tee Collegiate hosted by the University of Arkansas-Little Rock to finish the day tied for ninth at the Chenal Country Club.

After shooting an opening-round 302 that placed the Bisons in 14th after the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event, Lipscomb closed out the afternoon with an even-par 288. Ending the day at +14, the Bisons sit 15 strokes back of leader Tulsa after the Hurricane finished at -1.

Freshman Eric Ansett led the day for the Purple and Gold finishing in a tie for 31st after turning in a +3, 147 (71-76).

Fellow freshman Dawson Armstrong helped fuel the surge for the Bisons with a second round -4, 68 that tied for the best round of the day.  It was a complete turn from Armstrong’s opening round that saw the newcomer shoot a +9, 81 to start the event.  Armstrong’s 149 (81-68) ties him for 40th.

Senior Tyler Leroy and sophomore Stoney Crouch finished the day one stroke behind Armstrong in a tie for 48th.  The duo both opened the day with a +5, 77 before firing +1, 73s to finish the first day with a 150.

Senior Caston Roberts finished right on the heels of Leroy and Crouch with a +7, 151 (77-74).

Tulsa’s Colton Staggs sits atop the leaderboard with a -6, 138 after carding a pair of 69s.

The event wraps up on Tuesday with a final 18 holes of action.
