LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Lipscomb men’s golf team completed the 2015 First Tee Collegiate hosted by the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday tying for 11th place at the Chenal Country Club in Little Rock.
“It was a good event but we were just inconsistent,” said Lipscomb head coach Will Brewer. “After a good round yesterday afternoon, I thought we would come out and be ready to roll but we had some hiccups early. I’m confident that our team is just not hitting on all cylinders right now.
“We have a short game weakness that we have to fix and that’s my responsibility. We will get after that this week and hopefully go to Liberty with some more confidence.”
The Bisons were hoping to build on a solid second round but the final 18 holes in the “Diamond State” proved tough for the Purple and Gold as Lipscomb posted a 16-over, 304. That gave the squad a 3-round total of 894 (302-288-304) tying with UT-Martin.
Freshman Eric Ansett finished as the top performer for Lipscomb after carding a 2-over, 72 on Tuesday to finish with a +5, 221 (71-76-74). That earned the newcomer a tie for 24th.
Fellow freshman Dawson Armstrong followed behind Ansett in a tie for 42nd after shooting a +4, 76 in the third round for a 225 total (81-68-76). Senior Caston Roberts finished one stroke behind Armstrong with a 226 (77-74-75) in a tie for 47th.
Senior Tyler Leroy and sophomore Stoney Crouch each finished tied in 60th with identical 229s (77-73-79) to round out the competitors for the Bisons.
Tulsa took home top honors with an 866 (285-290-291) just one stroke ahead of Memphis. Medalist honors also went to the Hurricane with Matt Mabrey firing a 210 (72-70-68) to win by one stroke.
Lipscomb continues action next week in the Liberty Spring Invitational to wrap up the regular season before the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.
