AMHERST, Va. – The Lipscomb men’s golf team ended the 2015 regular season on Saturday with a strong, 4th-place showing in the Liberty Spring Invitational at the Poplar Grove Golf Course.
Finishing behind No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 19 North Carolina and host Liberty, the Bisons were propelled by freshman Dawson Armstrong, who finished tied for seventh just one stroke back of the leaders. Armstrong finished the 54-hole event two under after a +5, 77 on Saturday for a 3-day score of 214 (69-68-77).
Fellow freshman Eric Ansett led Lipscomb in the final round with a par 72 to finish the event with a 218 (74-72-72). That put the newcomer in a tie with sophomore Stoney Crouch, who also combined for a 218 (73-69-76).
Seniors Tyler Leroy and Caston Roberts finished tied for 68th and 75th, respectively. Leroy finished +18 for the event with a final round of 85 on Saturday. Roberts finished +22 with a 238 (80-79-79).
Liberty’s Mathieu Fenasse claimed medalist honors winning a six-player playoff with a birdie on hole No. 2.
Up next for the Bisons is a trip to the Atlantic Sun Championship next weekend in Braselton, Ga.
