BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bolstered by a 7-under, 137 from freshman Dawson Armstrong, the Lipscomb men’s golf team finished the first day of the 2014 WKU Kenny Perry Invitational atop the leaderboard.
As a team, the Bisons own a three-stroke lead over Jacksonville State after finishing the day with a +8, 584 (293, 291).
The reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Golfer of the Week, Dawson Armstrong opened the day by carding a -4, 68 in the first 18 holes of action before ending the day with a 3-under par 69. The newcomer will head into the final 18 holes of the 54-hole event on Tuesday with a five-stroke lead over Western Kentucky’s Nate Johnson.
Senior Caston Roberts also sits in the top-10 after carding a +2, 145 (71, 74) to rank tied for sixth in the event. Sophomore Stoney Crouch closed out the day with a +1, 73 to help the Bisons move in front of the field. On the day, Crouch posted a +6, 150 (77, 73).
Lipscomb also got a strong day from senior Tyler Leroy and sophomore Dowling Armstrong. Leroy finished the day +8, 152 (77-75) in a tie for 34th ahead of the elder Armstrong, who carded a +11, 155 (77-78) to round out the competitors for the Bisons.
