Fall closes for men's golf with sixth-place finish

COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – Fall action came to a close for the Lipscomb men’s golf team on Wednesday as the Bisons finished the Intercollegiate at the Grove in sixth place.

It capped off a solid fall season that saw the Bisons rise into the top-100 nationally by BirdieFire.

“We had a great fall,” said Lipscomb men’s head golf coach Will Brewer. “We met most of the expectations that we had.  We wanted to win an event and we had that and an individual win.

“We’ve had a lot of growth and a lot of good stuff. We’ve gained ground in the rankings but we still have a lot of work to do.”

Freshman Dawson Armstrong led the squad with his third top-5 finish of the season finishing in a 2-way tie for third.  The rookie finished the tournament with an even-par, 216 (66, 73, 77).

Sophomore Stoney Crouch finished the 54-hole event with a +8, 224 (75, 73, 76) to tie for 18th place.  Senior Caston Roberts followed two strokes behind with a +10, 226 (73, 76, 77) tying for 28th.

Sophomore Dowling Armstrong finished the event with a 233 (76, 78, 79) ahead of classmate, Mikey Feher, who posted a 236 (81, 78, 77).

“The last four weeks we have played every week and I think they are a little bit exhausted with school and workouts,” said Brewer. “I feel like it was good experience for us to play the venues we played and against the teams we competed with.  The only way for us to move the right way in the rankings is to compete against better teams.”

“We’re on the right track and we’re making progress.”

Ohio State climbed three spots on the final day of action to take the tournament crown with a +10, 874.  The Buckeyes were powered by Clark Engle, who claimed medalist honors after carding a -3, 213.

The Bisons open spring action Feb. 23-24 in the Jones Invitational hosted by Pepperdine in Valencia, California.
