VALENCIA, Calif. – Escaping the ice and slush of the Music City for the palm trees and warm temperatures of Southern California, the Lipscomb men’s golf team heads to Valencia, California to compete in the 2015 Jones Invitational hosted by Pepperdine on Monday and Tuesday.
“The weather up until a few days ago has allowed us to prepare well and we look to excel this spring,” said Lipscomb head coach Will Brewer. “We are excited and ready to compete. The field is strong and will test and see where we are early in the season.”
Along with host Pepperdine, the Bisons will battle BYU, Fresno State, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Pacific, Sam Houston State, San Diego, UC Irvine, USC, USC Upstate and Winthrop.
The 54-hole event will be played at the Valencia Country Club. The 7,019-yard course features par of 72. Lipscomb will tackle 36 holes on Monday with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start before finishing with a round of 18 on Tuesday.
The Bisons look to build on the fall where the team garnered the highest rankings in school history (94-Birdiefire, 112-Golfweek).
“I am very confident in this team and we are hopeful to build on some of the successes from the fall season,” said Brewer. “I will not be surprised if we compete very well and somewhat expect this team to excel.”
