VALENCIA, Calif. – The Lipscomb men’s golf team opened the 2015 spring slate on Monday at the Jones Invitational in 12th place.
After firing a +16, 304 to open the event in round one, the Bisons rallied with a +3, 291 in the final 18 holes of the day.
"We were a little rusty to start with today," said Lipscomb head coach Will Brewer. "We had a much better second round though and the team is looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow and competing."
That surge was led by freshman Dawson Armstrong, who carded a -2, 70 to finish the day tied for 15th in the event. The newcomer opened the day with a +2, 74.
Fellow freshman Eric Ansett paced Lipscomb in the opening round with a 73 before posting a +4, 77 to finish the day with a 149 in a tie for 39th. Sophomore Stoney Crouch matched Armstrong’s final round with a two-under finish putting him in a tie for 46th with a +7, 151.
Senior Caston Roberts matched Crouch’s score on the day with a 151 (76, 75) ahead of fellow classmate Tyler LeRoy, who fired a 162 (84, 78) to round out the competitors for the Bisons.
Southern California sits atop the 15-team field after the first 36 holes with a -11, 565. Teremoana Beaucousin from Kennesaw State sits atop the leaderboard at -9 (66, 69).
The event concludes on Tuesday with the final 18 holes at the Valencia Country Club. The event gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
