HOOVER, Ala. – With 36 holes in the books at the Hoover Country Club, the Lipscomb men’s golf team sits in second place after day one of the 2015 Samford Intercollegiate hosted by Samford University.
The Bisons combined to shoot a +15, 591 (299-292) to finish the day 16 strokes behind leader Southern Miss, who managed to post a -1, 575 (289-286).
Lipscomb was led by senior Caston Roberts, who sits tied for fifth overall having fired an opening-round 75 before posting a 71in the final 18 holes of the day to finish three over par. Sophomore Stoney Crouch also sits in the top-10 after day one with tied for ninth just one stroke behind Roberts. Crouch opened the day with a +2, 74 before carding a one-over 73 in round two.
Freshman Dawson Armstrong sits right on the heels of Roberts and Crouch after surging to a +4, 148 on the day. Dawson Armstrong opened the day with a +7, 79 before rallying in the second 18 of the day improving ten strokes to card a -3, 69.
Sophomore Dowling Armstrong and freshman Eric Ansett rounded out the contributors for the Bisons with both firing identical +12, 154s (75-79).
Southern Miss’ Casey Fernandez leads the event heading into the final 18 holes after shooting a even-par 72 and a -2, 70.
The event concludes on Tuesday with a final 18 holes of play.
