BRASELTON, Ga. – The Lipscomb men’s golf team opened the 2015 fall slate this week with an appearance in the Bridgestone Match Play event at Chateau Elan.
The Bisons opened the two-day event with a pair of wins on Sunday downing Appalachian State 4.5-1.5 after topping USC Upstate 4-2 to open play. Lipscomb finished the event on Monday with a 4-2 loss to Jacksonville at the Legends Course, site of the 2016 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.
“We didn’t quite finish the event off,” said Lipscomb Director of Golf Will Brewer. “Our ball striking was pretty good but our short game still needs work and we didn’t putt quite as well as Jacksonville did today. That turned out to be the separation between the two teams.
“We accomplished a lot of what I wanted to accomplish by coming down here this week. We got to see the course for three days and had the chance to play eight players.”
Jacksonville escaped the event with the only unblemished 3-0 record.
“This was good preparation for us going into the tournament at Memphis next week,” said Brewer. “The team is coming together. We have a few things to tighten up on but I feel like it was a pretty good outing.”
The Bisons continue fall action Sept. 21-22 at the Memphis Invitational hosted by the University of Memphis in the “Bluff City”.
