Rain makes going tough for men's golf at Intercollegiate

COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – Tougher conditions led to higher scores on Tuesday for the Lipscomb men’s golf team in the 2nd annual Intercollegiate at the Grove.

After leading the event following the first 18 holes, the Bisons slipped to second place behind No. 26 Kentucky after shooting a second round,  +14, 302.  Meanwhile, the Wildcats matched the Bisons opening round 288 to take a nine-stroke lead after 36 holes of action.

“We started off the day very poorly,” said Lipscomb director of golf Will Brewer. “We were 10-over after the first three holes and finished 14-over for the day, the highest round we’ve shot this fall. It was just an off day for us.

“We didn’t lose too much ground despite Kentucky playing a really good round today.  If we had started  the day at four or five over after three we would be in a much better position.”

Junior Stoney Crouch continues to lead the Bisons with a -3, 141 (68-73).  The Mount Juliet native heads into the final day of action at the Grove Club just two strokes behind leader Tyler McDaniel from Kentucky.

Sophomore Dawson Armstrong sits just two strokes back of Crouch after carding an even par, 72 on Tuesday to put him at -1, 143 (71, 72).  Fellow sophomore Eric Ansett sits in a tie for 26th with a +7, 151 (74, 77) ahead of classmate Hunter Howell, who sits at +11 after rounds of 75 and 80.

Junior Mikey Feher rounds out the competitors for the Bisons just two shots behind Ansett after rounds of 77 and 80 to start the tourney.

“We just didn’t execute well today,” said Brewer. “Because we started poorly with the conditions we had it was difficult to come back. We did play the back nine much better, so I was proud of that.”

The Bisons will tee off beginning at 10:03 a.m. for the final round in College Grove.

“The wind was a little different today and we didn’t really account for that on the first couple of holes,” said Brewer. “I think we’ll be prepared for the worst tomorrow.  Everyone has to play in the same conditions and there are no excuses.  The hole is the same size for everyone.”
