NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With trips from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, the Lipscomb men’s golf team will rack up some frequent flyers miles this spring with the challenging schedule that director of golf Will Brewer announced on Thursday.
The Bisons open the campaign Feb. 1-2, 2016 at the Sea Best Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida before trekking to the west coast for the Southwestern Jones Invitational at Pepperdine on Feb. 29-March 1.
“We will definitely be tested early with some strong competition,” said Brewer. “I’m hoping we have a good January weather wise to prepare. Those are two really good events for us and if we do well we should maintain or even move up in our ranking.”
Lipscomb returns to the “Sunshine State” on Mar. 12-13 for the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular just outside of Orlando and then concludes the month at the Little Rock/First Tee Classic in Little Rock, Arkansas on Mar. 28-29.
A trip to the Old Waverly Course in West Point, Mississippi will wrap up regular season action for Brewer’s squad as Lipscomb participates in the Old Waverly Collegiate Classic hosted by Mississippi State.
“Old Waverly hosted the Southern Amateur this last year and is a really good track,” said Brewer. “A couple of our guys played five or six rounds there since they made the cut, so I’m excited about that event.”
The postseason then begins April 17-19 as the Atlantic Sun Championship returns to Chateu Elan in Braselton, Georgia.
“Legends is a great golf course and we got a chance for eight of our guys to play it in the Bridgestone Match Play in September,” said Brewer. “It’s an advantage to us and we’re going to know the golf course well enough to win. We just have to execute. North Florida, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State and us are all pretty close to one another. It’s going to depend on who has a good week and we’re planning to have a good week that week.”
