Golf programs and softball earn NCAA Public Recognition Award

INDIANAPOLIS – The Lipscomb men’s and women’s golf teams along with the softball team were honored this week with the prestigious NCAA Public Recognition Award for their work in the classroom and graduation retention rates.

The trio of teams were honored for finishing the top 10 percent in the Academic Progress Rate in their respective sports during the 2014-15 academic year, a year in which Lipscomb Athletics claimed the Atlantic Sun Conference Academic Trophy. All three programs posted perfect scores of 1,000.

“"We are very proud of our golf and softball athletes who continue to excel academically as well as on the field or course,” said Dr. Lin Garner associate athletics director for academics and senior woman administrator.  “Kudos also to their coaches who invest so much time in and attention to academics."

It marks the second significant achievement for Kristin Ryman’s squad as the Lady Bisons were also honored for their work in 2014-15 with the National Fast Pitch Association (NFCA) award for the top grade point average with a cumulative 3.645 GPA.

The APR, or Academic Progress Rate, holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term. Teams must earn a four-year APR of 930 to compete in championships.
