LAKEPOINTE, Ga. – The 2017 ASUN Conference Men’s Golf postseason awards were announced on Saturday night at an awards banquet at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Georgia with the Lipscomb men’s golf team claiming a lion’s share of the laurels.
Highlighting the night was junior Eric Ansett picking up ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year for his efforts on the course and in the classroom and junior Dawson Armstrong repeating as ASUN Player of the Year, sharing the award with Jacksonville’s David Wicks. Ansett picked up Scholar-Athlete honors behind a 3.71 grade-point-average in Journalism and New Media and is a two-time ASUN All-Academic Team selection. Ansett becomes the first player in Lipscomb school history to claim the top academic honor in men’s golf.
Lipscomb director of golf Will Brewer also made history on Saturday night becoming the first coach of the Bisons to earn ASUN Coach of the Year honors. Brewer has led the Bisons to three tournament titles in 2016-17 and the highest Golfstat ranking in school history at No. 32. The Purple and Gold have finished in the top-5 in nine of the 11 events the team has competed in this fall.
Ansett also picked up his first all-conference award joining Armstrong as All-ASUN First-Team selections. Armstrong earned the honor for the second-straight season and was a unanimous selection for his play this season.
The Bisons also picked up a second member of the All-Academic squad as senior Stoney Crouch joined Ansett on the five-member squad behind his 3.51 GPA in financial markets. Both Ansett and Crouch repeated on the All-Academic team for the second-straight year.
