Armstrong advances to quarterfinals of U.S. Amateur

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – A late surge on early Thursday evening at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California saw Lipscomb senior Dawson Armstrong mount a comeback against Cheng Jin in the round of 32 of the 2017 USGA U.S. Amateur to win 2 and 1 and advance to Friday afternoon’s quarterfinals.

Armstrong will face off against Mark Lawrence, Jr. from Virginia Tech at 4 p.m. as the duo battles to advance to Saturday’s semifinals of the prestigious tournament.  FS1 will air coverage live on television beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday.

After leading by as many as two holes on the front nine over Jin, Armstrong found himself trailing the Chinese player by two with seven holes to play.  Armstrong would battle back to win 12 and 13 to draw even before a birdie on 16 and a par on 17 claimed the victory.

Live scoring will be available at the USGA Website
