LakePoint, Ga. - Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong set another milestone in his outstanding Bisons career as he collects his 12th career ASUN Men's Golfer of the Week award, the league office announced on Thursday.
Armstrong, who owns the ASUN record for most weekly honors by an ASUN male student-athlete, ties FGCU women's soccer great Tabby Tindell for most career weekly awards overall.
The Brentwood, Tennessee senior earned co-medalist honors at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate this past week. He began the tournament with a one-under-par round of 70 that included four birdies. After shooting a 75 in round two, Armstrong charged up the leaderboard in a big way on the final day of the event. The senior set a new course record with an 8-under-par, 63 in the final round to climb 13 spots and finish as co-medalist.
His final round began with two birdies on the front nine, including on the first hole of the day. But it was the back nine that turned the round into a special one. Armstrong eagled the Par-5 10th hole, then went on to birdie four more holes to finish with a 63. For the week, Armstrong was tied for second in the field with 15 birdies, while leading the field on Par 5 holes with a scoring average of 4.33.
The Bisons and Armstrong are headed to Mississippi this weekend in a final tuneup before the ASUN Championship at The Legends Course on April 22-24. They will compete in the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship hosted by Mississippi State.
