NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb men’s golf team kicks off their spring season on February 4th at the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verda, Florida.
The Bisons will be looking to improve on their fall season and have their sights set high for the spring season.
“Expectations are higher,” head coach Will Brewer said. “We’ve got a little more experience from a young team and we’ve got two of our three players that were out returning.
“I think on paper we look stronger. Obviously it’s been a little bit of a challenge to prepare with the weather, but we did take a weekend where we had a lot of good play.”
The Bisons spring season will start with a tough test, as they will be facing a field featuring eight of the top 40 teams in the country at a course that could present some challenges.
“You’ve got to really drive the ball in play,” Brewer said. “It’s not hot down there, it’s nice, but it’s not hot so the Bermuda rough is not really thick. There is a lot of water, so if we drive it well and putt it well we can be very competitive.”
A key member for the Purple and Gold will be sophomore Linus Samuelsson. Samuelsson had a quality fall season in which he was able to record two top-25 showings, including a tie for fifth at the Lone Star Invite. Samuelsson will be starting off the spring season not at 100 percent, however, as he is recovering from foot surgery during the off time.
“Linus is technically very sound,” Brewer said. “So when he is confident and has good rhythm he plays well, he putts well, he does a lot of things very well.”
