NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb men's golf team wrapped up play at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate at Richland Country Club on Tuesday afternoon and finished the tournament on a high note.
"Today I saw a glimpse of what this team is capable of doing," Director of Golf Will Brewer said. "We started the season with injuries and mostly inexperienced players and today has given this team encouragement and hope for the immediate future."
The Bisons "A" squad finished in fourth place with a two-round total of 586. The squad fired a final round 289, which was the third-lowest team score on the day, to jump up seven spots on the leaderboard.
The Bisons "B" squad ended the tournament in 16th with a two-round total of 632 after carding its second consecutive round of 316.
USC Upstate won the tournament title at 573, three-shots better than Southern Miss.
Eric Gilpin had himself a day on the course and paced the Bisons on the leaderboard. The senior fired the lowest score of the spring for the Bisons in his final round of competition with a four-under, 67. He also had the best individual finish for the Bisons this season as he tied for third.
"Eric has worked extremely hard on his game and his confidence is growing," Brewer said.
Junior Davis Armstrong also had a solid tournament and finished tied for 17th at 145. Armstrong carded a final round score of 73 following up his opening round 72.
Trevor Gold and Paul Swindell rounded out the rest of the Bisons "A" squad as they both finished tied for 30th place at 150. Gold shot rounds of 77 and 73, while Swindell shot rounds of 74 and 76.
Jerry Zhu had the best finish for the Bisons "B" squad as he tied for 38th at 152.
Sophomore Linus Samuelsson had to withdraw from the tournament due to a hip injury.
The Purple and Gold will be back in action for its final tune up before the ASUN Conference Championship at the Old Waverly Intercollegiate in West Point, Mississippi April 15-16.
