Lipscomb Director of Golf Will Brewer has announced the addition of Cole Buck to the men’s golf coaching staff on Thursday. Buck will be an assistant with the Bisons, helping Brewer guide the men’s squad.
“I’m super pumped,” Buck said. “I think it’s just going to be a really good fit between myself and Will and the rest of the program.
“There’s a lot of opportunity here for junior golfers coming in to get everything they need to be really successful. I feel like the program’s been on a really good track the last several years, so we’re excited to keep that going.”
Buck arrives at Lipscomb after two seasons as the head coach at Wagner, a Division I program in the Northeast Conference (NEC) located in Staten Island, New York.
“I think it was great experience,” Buck said. “I was probably one of the younger DI head coaches in the country, and that was an awesome experience to figure out what it's like from that role, to figure out what it’s like to deal with kids that are a little bit closer to my age, but keep that leadership role.
“That’s the big thing that Will and I have been talking about - coming here, golf is super important obviously, but our main goal is to develop young men.”
On the links, Buck played two seasons at TCU (Texas Christan University) in the Big 12.
“Getting to be around such high level players the whole time I was there was pretty great,” Buck said. “I personally had a little bit shorter of a playing career, but just getting connected with those guys and developing some golf experience from cadying to coaching to is very useful.”
Prior to his time at the helm of Wagner’s program, Buck spent his senior year at TCU serving as assistant varsity coach for the men’s and women’s golf teams at Trinity Valley High School in Fort Worth, Texas. He also spent a semester coaching as an intern with the strength and conditioning department for the athletic program during his sophomore year.
Buck also spent his final three years of high school at the prestigious Jim McLean Golf Academy in Arlington, Texas.
“I think Cole possesses all the things that I was looking for to help us continue to grow this program,” Brewer said. “He’s had great experience with golf academies, he’s had head coaching experience, recruiting experience, compliance experience, Power Five playing experience. So, he had the whole package.”
