SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Lipscomb men’s golf team finished its first tournament of the 2019-20 season with a fourth place finish at the UTSA Lone Star Invitational with a three-round total of 887 (294-290-303).
Senior grad transfer Nolan Ray came out ahead of the field and finished in first place individually at 207 (65-69-73). Ray out-battled Louisiana Monroe’s Guillaume Fanonnel to claim the individual title by one stroke.
Ray’s rounds of 65-69-73 for a 9-under total (207) is the second lowest 54-hole score of his career. This is also the first career individual victory for Ray and the first time a member of the Purple and Gold claimed individual medalist honors since Dawson Armstrong at the 2018 ASUN Championship.
Freshman Ford Goldasich was next in line for the Bisons and finished his collegiate debut in a tie for 34th at 228 (79-75-74).
"I'm proud of how the team responded during the first 54-hole event this fall," director of golf Will Brewer said. "I'm especially proud of how Nolan led the team shooting scores of 65-69-73 for a 9-under finish and winning his first collegiate event.
"The team came in prepared this fall and the work the men have put in is showing. We still have much to improve upon, but I am excited to work toward some lofty goals the team has set. As we focus on a strong mindset and grow in confidence I believe this team is capable of reaching heights equal to any team we have fielded at Lipscomb."
South Alabama claimed the team title at 873 after defeating Houston and UT Arlington in a sudden death playoff.
Lipscomb will be back in action next week at the Graeme McDowell Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. On Sept. 23-24.
