DULUTH, Ga. - The Lipscomb men's golf team finished in second at the Autotrader Collegiate Classic on Tuesday at 849 (282-279-288) and were led by senior grad transfer, Nolan Ray who won the individual title at 202 (66-68-68).
Ray, who led the field for the entire tournament, fired a final-round 68 to secure his victory by four strokes over James Madison's George Heath (206).
The Brentwood, Tenn. native set a new career-best, 54-hole score with his performance at 14-under (202) and carded 19 birdies over the tournament, which was the most in the entire field. His first-round 66 is the second-lowest score he has shot this season.
This is the second-career individual title for Ray and the second time this season he has brought home a trophy. Ray also won the individual title at the UTSA Lone Star Invitational last month.
This Bisons also got a nice outing from Paul Swindell, who finished tied in fourth at 209. The junior carded rounds of 68-67-74 for his best finish of the season.
A trio of Bisons rounded-out the rest of the starting lineup as Connor McKay, Trevor Gold and Ford Goldasich all tied for 35th at 221.
James Madison won the team title at 844, which was five strokes better than Lipscomb.
"This was a solid event for our team and I'm very proud of the fight today," said director of golf Will Brewer. "We didn't quite have our best stuff, but we came back through the last seven-to-eight holes to close the gap. The effort was there and this team is growing and learning with consistent work and will compete in each event.
"Nolan was on point this week and Paul had an excellent finish. I'm proud of Trevor as he finished his last nine-holes 3-under."
The Purple and Gold will close out their fall season next week, Oct. 21-22, at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla.
