VERO BEACH, Fla. - The Lipscomb men's golf team is in sixth place after the first day of play at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate.
The Bisons fired a 36-hole total of 566 (292-274) at the Quail Valley Golf Club on Sunday, which has them in the middle of the pack in the 14-team field. Notre Dame is in first at 547 (277-270).
Lipscomb bounced back with a solid second-round after having a shaky start to the tournament. Every member in the Bisons lineup shot even-par or better in the second-round to move Lipscomb eight spots up on the leaderboard.
Paul Swindell had the best day for the Purple and Gold, as he is tied for 15th at 138 (71-67). Connor McKay is just two strokes behind Swindell at 140 (70-70) and is tied for 22nd.
Nolan Ray had the greatest improvement from rounds one-to-two by carding a 68 in the second-round after posting a 77 in the first. He is tied for 50th at 145.
"We had a very poor start this moring with very few birdies," director of golf Will Brewer said. "However, the men kicked it into gear for the last 18-holes of the day. It shows the talent on this team and when we play well we can compete with most teams. We will need to come out hot tomorrow to keep pushing up the leaderboard."
Lipscomb will end its fall portion of the season with the third and final round tomorrow.
