WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Former Lipscomb men's golf standout Dawson Armstrong took another step toward earning his PGA Tour card by qualifying for the Korn Ferry Tour on Sunday evening.
Armstrong finished T7 (-18, 68-69-66-65=268) in the Final Stage of the Korn Ferry Qualifying Tournament at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge and earned 12 guaranteed starts for the upcoming 2020 Korn Ferry Tour season by finishing in the top 10.
“There really weren’t too many emotions until my mom started crying," Armstrong said. "Then it was a little emotional. It’s a really big relief. It was really nerve-racking from hole 8 until about hole 14. Then after that it was smooth sailing. Joy would be a good way to put it. I’m really glad to make it to the next step.”
Formerly known as the Web.com Tour, the Korn Ferry Tour has been the primary path for golfers seeking to earn their PGA Tour card with three out of four PGA TOUR members being Korn Ferry Tour alumni.
Reaction from Lipscomb Director of Golf, Will Brewer:
"I am so excited for Dawson as he continues to pursue his life long goal of competing at the highest level. He is as focused and as committed as any player I have coached.
"He has what it takes to be successful on the next level. He represents Lipscomb, his family and himself well. I'm sure we will see more successes in the future."
