Charles Morrow has been named the new men's soccer coach at Lipscomb University.
Morrow is a former player and assistant coach for the Bisons soccer program. He was an assistant coach at Vanderbilt University for three years before moving to Belmont Abbey inBelmont , N.C., as head coach.
"I am excited about coming back to Nashville and Lipscomb University," Morrow said. "Lipscomb is a very special place to me and I am committed to building a program that will not only be competitive in the Atlantic Sun Conference, but also on the regional and national level. All the things that are necessary to build a competitive program are in place at Lipscomb, and I am sure that in time the men's soccer program will have all the success that those who support the program want."
In two seasons at Belmont Abbey Morrow directed the men's soccer team at the NCAA Division II school to conference runner-up honors in both the regular season and the tournament. In 2003 the team finished third in the regular season, advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
"We are very pleased to welcome Charles Morrow back to Lipscomb University as Head Men's Soccer coach," said Dr. Steve Potts, Lipscomb athletics director. "Having been a part of our men's soccer program as both a player and an assistant coach, Charles is committed to building a championship program. His coaching experience as an assistant at Vanderbilt and as head coach at Belmont Abbey has prepared him for this challenge."
Morrow is a 1997 Lipscomb graduate. He played for the Bisons from 1994-1996, serving as team captain. He started his collegiate career at Queens College, an NCAA Division II soccer power.
"The relationships that I built while attending Lipscomb are relationships that are still very important to me today," Morrow said. "It is my firm belief that in addition to Lipscomb's highly regarded education, great facilities and awesome location that Lipscomb University offers a special environment that leads itself to forming relationships that will last a lifetime. This is why I am confident that as a program we can offer talented recruits everything any program in the country can offer and more."
He served as assistant men's soccer coach at Lipscomb from 1996-1997 when the school was in the NAIA. Morrow took over as head coach of both the boy's and girl's soccer teams at Goodpasture High School from 1998-2000. At Goodpasture the boy's team advanced to the regional semifinals in both 1999 and 2000.
Morrow returned to the college coaching ranks in July of 2000 when he went to Vanderbilt as an assistant men's soccer coach. He left Vanderbilt for the head men's soccer coaching position at Belmont Abbey in April 2003.
Morrow is completing his Master of Sports Science degree this summer at the United States Sports Academy in Daphne,Ala.
He is married to the former Beth Ernest of Nashville. The couple has two sons, Trip, 2, and Will, 1.
