MACON, Ga. - This weekend, Lipscomb’s men’s soccer hosts its first ever soccer tournament opening with Presbyterian and concluding with the Atlantic Sun’s Game of the Week, a Sunday meeting with UNC Asheville at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on ASun.TV.
Lipscomb enters with a 2-4 mark. Among those four losses are two by single-goal margin. The Bisons opened the year with a 4-0 shutout win against former Atlantic Sun member Gardner-Webb but have gone through a tough stretch of games losing each of their last four decisions. In their last game, Lipscomb took on No. 20 Louisville and dropped a 5-2 decision. The Bisons start a young team with six freshmen, three sophomores, one junior and one senior. Sophomore forward Miguel DaSilva leads the Bisons in both points (seven) and goals (three). Freshman forward Andrew Chamberlain is second in points (four) and goals (two).
UNC Asheville owns a 2-2-1 mark with the four non-tie games ending in one-goal decisions. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs picked up their first win of 2008 in dramatic fashion as Ryan Haupt connected on the game-winning goal against Longwood with only 42 seconds remaining for a 3-2 victory at home. UNC Asheville had led by a 2-0 margin into the 84th minute before the Lancers struck twice within three minutes to level the contest. Prior to this win, the Bulldogs had scored only one goal in their first three matches combined in dropping 1-0 contests to Appalachian State on September 6th and at Elon on September 12th before tying UNC Greensboro two days later.
