Sunday, October 10, 2010The Lipscomb Bisons made a clean sweep of their Florida visit with a 3-2 win over North Florida Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville.
The win evened the Bisons Atlantic Sun Conference record at 2-2-0 and 6-6-0 overall. North Florida dropped to 1-7-0, 0-3-0 in the conference.
“We tried to give it away, but we will take the win,” Bisons’ coach Charles Morrow said. “We missed a lot of opportunities in the second half. I have to credit North Florida for hanging in there and making a game of it.”
The Bisons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half.
“To score first was huge and to get things going early was good,” Morrow said. “As the game wore on our sense of urgency left us.
Garrett McLaughlin scored the first goal at 17:37 with a header off of a corner kick that went into the back right corner of the goal. Nick Bibb was credited with the assist.
Miguel DaSilva made it 2-0 with a one-on-one move at 32:13. Angel Chairez assisted on the play.
Tyler Burkhardt followed with a goal at 42:57. He received a pass from the left side by Juan Pacheco and scored from in front of the box.
“When we play like we are capable of and when we play our system you see balanced scoring like this with different people getting opportunities,” Morrow said.
Enrique Haeussler broke the shutout 1:12 left to play in the first half on a free kick from just outside the box.
Calvin Lowe closed the Bisons’ gap at 75:18 of the second half as he scored on a cross from the left side.
The Bisons next game is Thursday. Oct. 14, at Belmont.
“It is a short week and it is always an emotional game when we play Belmont,” Morrow said. “To get a couple of conference wins under our belt is huge. I know Belmont feels the same way because they also won two games.”
Despite the success of winning against Jacksonville and North Florida, Morrow stresses his team still has a lot of work to do.
“We certainly don’t feel like we have arrived,” Morrow said. “We are happy with getting six points out of the weekend but we are not satisfied with our performances.
“We know we can do better as a team. Neither game should have been close. I think the guys are hungry to continue to improve. “
