BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Playing its first ranked opponent of the season, the Lipscomb men’s soccer team fell 3-0 to UAB Saturday night in Birmingham, Ala.
The 24th -ranked Blazers (5-2-2, 0-0-0 CUSA) used a first half goal and an early second half goal to put the Bisons (2-7-0, 0-0-0 ASUN) away and tallied its third goal just seconds before the end of regulation.
“We played extremely well for large periods of time,” Lipscomb head coach Charles Morrow said. “Our inability to execute at critical times and mistakes made all the difference in the game. UAB did an outstanding job of converting off our mistakes.”
UAB connected on its first goal in the 38th minute when Freddy Ruiz hit the back of the net with a shot from the middle of the pitch.
The Blazers struck again in the 52nd minute as Ian Svantesson found Chase Wickham just outside of the penalty box for the 2-0 lead.
Ruiz tacked on his second goal of the contest in the 90th minute.
LU tallied nine shots placing three on frame. Freshman Troy Barr had his best offensive output to date, as he attempted three shots to lead the Bisons.
The Bisons return to Nashville for their final non-conference game on Thursday against rival Belmont at E.S. Rose Park in the “Battle of the Boulevard” starting at 5 p.m.
