MACON, Ga. - The Lipscomb men’s soccer team raised a conference-best $2,000 with its Coaches vs. Cancer event held on Oct. 13 during its game against ETSU.
Money is raised through donations and the auction of an autographed framed jersey.
The Bisons and the rest of the Atlantic Sun raised a total of $6,051 as each league member hosted a Coaches vs. Cancer event throughout the season.
Mercer came in second raising $1,200 while ETSU followed with $830.
In its third year, this is the first season all nine teams in the A-Sun participated. The inaugural year, 2010, five games were hosted over one weekend to raise awareness of cancer and acknowledging survivors while honoring those who lost their lives.
Over the last two seasons the A-Sun has raised $12,401 for the American Cancer Society. The Bisons $2,000 topped last year’s high of $1,300, which was tops in the A-Sun.
“For all nine of our men’s soccer teams to come together for the common purpose of raising awareness and money for Coaches vs. Cancer show cases the commitment of our member institutions to Building Winners for Life,” A-Sun Commissioner Ted Gumbart said. “We look forward to the event continuing to building in popularity and success over the coming years.”
