NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Lipscomb men’s soccer had three players named to the Mafiaoza’s Invitational All-Tournament Team on Monday.
Luke Gearin, Robbie Johnson and Josue Chavez were chosen for their excellent play throughout the invitational where the Bisons finished at 1-1 with a win over Cleveland State on Sunday.
Chavez, a sophomore midfielder, assisted on the game-winning goal by Zander El-Hindi on Sunday. For the season, Chavez is second on the team in points (3), goals (1) and assists (1).
Junior defenders Luke Gearin and Robbie Johnson played vital roles by anchoring a defensive line that allowed only two goals for the weekend. Their play helped secure the Bisons first shut out of the season against Cleveland State while holding them to only six shots.
Joining the three Lipscomb players on the team were Illinois-Chicago teammates Andrew Putna, Josh Beard, Jorge Alvarez and Gonzalo Romo. Belmont players Nat Hubert, Luca Schioppa and Alfred Edmonds were also selected to the team, along with Alex Obbey and Jordan Hart of Cleveland State.
The Bisons return to the field on Friday to host the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational. The first game of the tournament will kick-off at 5 p.m. with Belmont facing Central Arkansas, followed by Lipscomb versus Appalachian State at 7:30 p.m.
