NASHVILLE, TENN.- The Lipscomb men’s soccer team returns to action Friday when they host the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational.
The Bisons will face Appalachian State with kick-off slated for 7:30 p.m. The Bisons will finish the invitational in a Sunday game against Central Arkansas with a 2:30 p.m. start time.
Lipscomb is coming off a 1-1 performance in the Mafiaoza’s Invitational at Belmont where the Bisons recorded their first shutout win of the season in a 1-0 win over Cleveland State.
Zander El-Hindi scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Josue Chavez. Micah Bledsoe started in the net and recorded five saves.
Omar Djabi leads the Purple and Gold with four goals and one assist on 10 shot attempts. Djabi’s four goals are tied for 13th in the nation and lead the Atlantic Sun. He also leads the conference with two game-winning goals.
The Mountaineers bring a 1-1-3 overall record to Nashville. This will be only the second ever meeting between the schools with Appalachian St. winning 2-0 in 2001. Stanley Broaden, Harrison Delbridge and Stephen Chapman lead Appalachian St. with two goals scored. Broaden and Luke Adams are tied for the team lead with two assists.
Senior goalkeeper Danny Free has recorded all decisions, saving 18 shots while allowing six goals in five games. Free has two shutouts and a 1.06 goals against average. The Mountaineers will face Belmont in a noon kickoff on Sunday to finish their weekend in Nashville.
The Bears of Central Arkansas enter the weekend with a 3-3-0 overall record. Lipscomb is 1-1 all-time against Central Arkansas. The last meeting came in 2012 when the Bisons walked away with a 1-0 victory.
Logan Miller is the statistical leader for the Bears with three goals scored, two assists and eight points. Taylor Hart is tied for the team lead with three goals.
Taran Meyer and Patxi Shortsleeve man the net for the Bears. Meyer sports a 2-2 record with 12 saves and six goals allowed. Shortsleeve is credited with nine stops and five goals allowed in two games.
Belmont will open the invitational on Friday with a 5 p.m. game against Central Arkansas. On Sunday they face the Mountaineers with a noon kick-off. The Bruins bring a 2-2-0 record into the weekend.
