The Bisons and Mercer University met in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener for both teams Thursday night in Macon, Ga.
Mercer prevailed on its home field with a 3-1 victory. It was the fifth straight road game for the Bisons.
"We didn't play poorly," said Lipscomb Coach Charles Morrow. "Our defense didn't have a great game. We had a couple of letdowns in the back that led to goals."
Vicente Arze opened the scoring at 31:05 with the only goal of the first half.
"They had a couple of guys that were tough to hand," Morrow said. "When we made mistakes they made us pay."
Lipscomb's Ben Page tied the game at 48:45 of the second half at 1-1. Mercer regained control of the game with goals by Del Olaoye and Cliff Wilson.
"Ben is definitely a threat," Morrow said. "Their goalkeeper was playing 35-to-40 yards in front of the net. Ben got around him and made the shot."
The Bisons recorded two shots, one by Page and one by Jeff Boynton. Mercer was credited with 12 shots, seven in the second half.
"Mercer did a good job of getting numbers behind us," Morrow said. "That prevented us from getting good opportunities."
J.D. Murphy was in goal for the Bisons.
Mercer is 4-5, 1-0 in the A-sun. Lipscomb is 2-4-1, 0-1 in the conference. Mercer has won all five meetings with the Bisons in men's soccer.
The Bisons travel to Stetson in Deland, Fla., for a game Saturday.
"We'll train Friday and prepare for Stetson," said Morrow. "Our guys don't feel good about losing, but we can take some things away from this loss. We have to be more careful on defense. We have to work on making better defensive decisions."
