With only two Atlantic Sun games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Lipscomb Bisons soccer team is facing a "must win" situation Thursday night when Gardner-Webb visits.
Game time is 7 p.m.
The Bisons are coming off a disappointing weekend with a 1-0 loss at North Florida and a 4-0 loss at Jacksonville. Six teams earn berths in the Atlantic Sun Tournament. The Bisons, 1-3-1 in the conference are tied with Mercer in a scramble for the sixth spot. Gardner-Webb, 3-1-1 in the conference, is tied with Belmont for second place.
The final A-Sun regular season game for the Bisons is Saturday at Campbell.
"For us to be in control of whether we go on and play in the tournament we need to win both games this weekend," said Lipscomb coach Charles Morrow. "We have dug ourselves a bit of a hole. This weekend is a great opportunity for us.
"Our guys believe they can play with any team in the conference. Gardner-Webb and Campbell are two of the top teams in the conference."
Morrow called the 1-0 loss to North Florida the most disappointing loss of the season.
:"The guys were upset, and I was upset as well," said Morrow. "We had so many chances against them. The Jacksonville game was a goofy one. They capitalized on everything that we did wrong. Right now, we have to focus on what is ahead of us. We have to try to address some issues."
With ?? newcomers on the team, including >?? Freshmen, the challenges of college life away from the soccer field have been as tough, or tougher, to deal with than playing the games.
"There are so many outside forces pulling at us," said Morrow. "We have to keep from screwing up our priorities. We beat Gardner-Webb last season so they will be looking for revenge."
