Bisons second half rally falls short at USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. _ The Lipscomb Bisons came on strong early in the second half, but they could not hold off USC- Upstate in a 4-2 Atlantic Sun loss Friday night.

After allowing Upstate to take a 2-0 lead in the first half the Bisons went on the offensive after intermission.

Senior defender Xander Vooys scored at the 47:51 mark for the Bisons as his shot from about 30 yards out bounced off the hands of goalkeeper Jason McCabe.

The Bisons tied the game at 68:02 as freshman forward Miguel DaSilva scored on a breakaway off of a pass from Vooys.

A minute later Upstate scored to take a 3-2 advantage. They iced the game at 83:56 when David Acosta scored on a one-timer off of a breakaway.

Jack Burridge scored a pair of goals for Upstate.

Lipscomb senior goalkeeper Jake Goergen made six saves. Jason McCabe made 10 saves to Upstate.

The Bisons out-shot Upstate 22-15. The Bisons had 13 shots on goal and Upstate made 10.

Lipscomb senior forward Ben Page made a team-leading six shots, three on goal. Freshman midfielder Angel Chairez added five shots with three on goal.

DaSilva leads the Bisons in goals with four and points with eight.

It was the first NCAA Division I victory for Upstate.

The Bisons fell to 1-6-2 overall, 0-1-1 in the conference. Upstate is 1-8-0, 1-2-0 in the A-Sun.
