Bisons lose 1-0 to Mercer
The Bisons lost 1-0 to Mercer Saturday night in an Atlantic Sun Conference game at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

"It was gut-wrenching," said Lipscomb coach Charles Morrow. "You expect to have games like this during a season, but you hope they don't happen during a conference game.

"We didn't expect this result. This is not the first time we have had a game like this. And I put the onus on the forwards."

Morrow was especially disappointed that forwards Miguel DaSilva and Garret Pettis only had one shot between them. Pettis had one shot on goal and DaSilva did not have a shot attempt.

"I expect our No. 1 and No. 2 scorers from last season to have more than one shot between them," said Morrow.

The Bisons outshot Mercer 24-9, and held an 8-2 edge in shots on goal, but could not finish a scoring play.

Andrew Chamberlain led the Bisons in shots with five. Both Chamberlain and Alexander Faulk had two shots on goal.

"You can't take anything away from Mercer's defensive effort," said Morrow. "They were diving at the feet of our players and putting their bodies in front of balls. They showed a lot of guts."

Brent McGee was in goal for the Bisons. He had one save.

Mercer's Will Grey scored what proved to be the only goal of the game at the 10:58 mark of the first half.

"We tell our guys all the time about doing certain things and letting the result take care of itself," said Morrow. "We did those things against Mercer with the exception of a mental lapse."

The good news for the Bisons was the return of senior defender Kezi Lara to the lineup after missing the last two games.

"Kezi is a difference-maker," said Morrow. "It is good to have him back."

The Bisons are 3-6-2, 0-1-1 in the A-Sun. Mercer is 3-4-2, 2-0-0 in the conference.
