The Lipscomb Bisons are heading into Atlantic Sun Conference play on a positive note after shutting down Bowling Green State 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Bowling Green, Ohio.

“As a far as confidence and a belief in what we are doing we needed this win for sure,” Bisons’ coach Charles Morrow said.

After playing to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Bisons got a pair of goals in the final 45 minutes.

Miguel DaSilva connected from six yards out with an assist from Nick Bibb 31 seconds into the second half. Garret Pettis, assisted by Chase Nieri and Garrett McLaughlin, added the second goal at 69:18.

The Bisons had 18 shots with nine shots on goal. Bowling Green State attempted nine shots with only one shot on goal.

“It was a pretty dominating performance,” Morrow said. “We should have scored more. I’m not pleased with that. But overall from a playing standpoint we did well.”

Lipscomb goalkeeper Brent McGee picked up the shutout with one save. In his last three halves of play he has not allowed a goal. “Brent came back this weekend and did not give up a goal,” Morrow said. “It was definitely a positive. He is moving in the right direction going into the conference.

“He is more mentally aware. His focus is where it needs to be. It is not a technical or ability problem. It is more about his mental approach to a game.”

Morrow was pleased to see his team rebound for a win against a team with a similar playing style to Xavier, a team the Bisons lost to Friday night by a 1-0 score.

“The guys did a good job of learning from Friday’s game and applying those lessons,” Morrow said. “Friday night it was more of a thing of guys trying to do too much and playing outside of their roles.

“When you do that, things start to break down. Against Bowling Green State the guys did a good job of trusting each other and trusting the system. By doing that more things opened up.”

The Bisons are back at .500 at 4-4-0. Bowling Green State fell to 2-3-2.

Friday night at 7:30 the Bisons open the A-Sun portion of the season when Florida Gulf Coast visits.
