NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team has been picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference preseason coaches’ poll released Thursday. The Bisons, 7-12-1 and 3-4-1 in A-Sun play last season, picked up 45 points to place fifth in the preseason standings.
Florida Gulf Coast, back-to-back A-Sun Conference champs, was tabbed as the league favorite by picking up 79 points and seven first-place votes. ETSU was selected to finish second with 69 points and one first-place vote, while Mercer rounds out the top three respectively with 66 points and one first-place tally.
The Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Team sees a familiar name in junior defender, Omar Djabi. In his sophomore campaign, Djabi earned a selection to the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team after scoring three goals and two assists, totaling eight points. He looks to improve on last season and help take his team to new heights in 2013.
With 171 votes, Djabi was also tabbed as the Fan-Voted Defensive Player of the Year in the A-Sun.
The Preseason Player of the Year honor belongs to senior forward from ETSU, David Geno. His teammate, Blaike Woodruff earned the selection for Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Greg Ranjitsingh of Mercer picked up the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year selection.
The Bisons begin exhibition play against Martin Methodist at 7 p.m. on Friday Aug. 16 at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. Lipscomb will face cross-town rival Belmont on Friday Aug. 30 to begin regular season play.
