The Lipscomb men’s soccer team will begin a three-game home stand this weekend with a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference games. Jacksonville will visit Nashville for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Bisons on Friday, before North Florida invades the Lipscomb Soccer Complex Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Bisons (5-5-1, 1-1-0) are third in the A-Sun and have only played three home matches in its 11 games. Lipscomb has put itself in good position to make the conference tournament with five of the last seven matches at home. With only 10 points being needed to qualify, the Bisons have already collected three.
The Purple and Gold are second in the A-Sun with two shutouts and are third in shots (129), goals (12), goals per game (1.09) and goals against average (1.16).
When the Bisons score first in a game, they are 5-0.
Lipscomb is led in scoring by Preseason A-Sun First Team selection Omar Djabi with five goals. Djabi is tied for first in the A-Sun and is 40th nationally.
Luke Gearin is second on the team with two goals.
Djabi also leads the Bisons with two assists, while four players have one assist.
Scout Monteith has yet to find the net this season, but still leads the team with a .571 shot on goal percentage (14 shots, 8 OG).
Goalkeeper Micah Bledsoe may only be a freshman, but he ranks among the leaders in the A-Sun in most categories. Bledsoe is second in saves (36), third in shutouts (2) and save percentage (.735) and fourth in goals allowed average (1.16).
His 36 saves put him in sixth on the Lipscomb individual season record for saves. The Ohio native is No. 1 in both save percentage and goals against average.
Bledsoe has recorded all decisions in the net for the Bisons while being credited with 2.1 shutouts.
LAST TIME OUT:
Lipscomb opened A-Sun play on the road Friday and fell 1-0 to Florida Gulf Coast before shutting out Stetson 1-0 on Sunday. Kevin McMahon scored the first goal of his career to lift the Bisons over the Hatters.
The Bisons had plenty of scoring opportunities, outshooting its opponents 34-17, but could only find the net one time.
The Dolphins (2-5-1, 0-0-0) have yet to play a conference game. Lipscomb trails in the all-time series (5-8-1), including a 1-0 win in double overtime in 2012.
Jacksonville is led offensively by Nick Rodriguez with three goals. Jack Burns is second with two. Burns also leads the team with two assists while seven others have one.
Preseason A-Sun selection Matheus Saroli leads the team with 18 shots and eight on goal. He also is credited with one goal and one assist.
Marc Meny (six starts) and Gavin Carlin (two starts) have split time defending the net for the Dolphins. Meny has allowed eight goals while stopping 22. He has a .733 save percentage and a 2-3-1 record with one shutout.
Carlin is credited with 11 grabs and three goals allowed for a .786 save percentage. His record is 0-2-0.
Jacksonville is third in the A-Sun in assists per game (1) and goals allowed (11).
The Dolphins are coming off a 2-1 win in double overtime against Davidson on Oct. 5.
The Ospreys (4-3-1, 0-1-0) are coming off a 1-0 loss to East Tennessee State on Oct. 4. The all-time series is tied (4-4-1). Lipscomb lost 3-2 in double overtime last season.
Alex Morrell, Jean Rivaroli, Pedro Carneiro and Drew Spragg lead the team with two goals each.
Morrell paces the Ospreys in assists with three. His 0.50 assists per game average leads the A-Sun and ranks 24th nationally.
Brad Sienkiewicz has played every minute in the net for North Florida, compiling 31 saves and allowing nine goals for a .775 save percentage, a percentage that places him second in the A-Sun. Sienkiewicz has two shutouts.
UNF ranks second in the A-Sun in goals (11), goals per game (1.38), goals allowed (9), goals allowed average (1.09) and shutouts (2).
North Florida is the only team in the A-Sun with a plus-scoring average, (+ 0.25), scoring 11 goals to 9 goals allowed. Lipscomb is second at -0.09 (12 goals, 13 goals allowed).
Concluding the three game home stand, the Bisons will face Northern Kentucky on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
