Men's soccer gets recognition in NSCAA Southeast Poll

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team received some recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Monday after a stellar weekend on the pitch.

In the first 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire Southeast Poll of the season, the Bisons were rated the No. 9 best team in the region.

“It is nice to be recognized for our play,” Lipscomb coach Charles Morrow said. “But we expect more and so do our guys.

“We anticipate better things to come from this team throughout the season, but the ranking is a good start and a nice way to build our confidence early.”

Although Lipscomb brought home two victories over Xavier on Friday and Eastern Illinois on Monday, the poll was released before the second win and only took into consideration the one win over the Musketeers in the season opener.

As a reflection of the continuously increasing competitive strength of the Atlantic Sun Conference three teams own a spot in the rankings. Along with Lipscomb, Florida Gulf Coast was rated the No. 3 team after defeating USF on Friday and North Florida held the No. 5 spot with a 2-0 record.

Lipscomb will be able to get a little rest this week before making a trip to Evansville, Indiana to battle the Purple Aces on Sunday Sept. 7 at 4 p.m.
