NASHVILLE, Tenn. –The Lipscomb men’s soccer team enters senior night and the final home match of the 2014 season Saturday looking to fight two battles. While hosting the four-time Atlantic Sun champion, Florida Gulf Coast at 7 p.m., the Bisons are also sponsoring the fifth annual Coaches vs. Cacder Match.
Lipscomb will honor seniors Luke Gearin (Captain), Zander El-Hindi, Robbie Johnson and Omar Djabi before the A-Sun Preseason Co-Favorites kick off.
This group of seniors is trying to do something no other Bisons soccer team has ever done: win the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Bisons currently sit third in the league standings with seven points, trailing Stetson (12 PT) and FGCU (10 PT). With a win or a tie Saturday Lipscomb will clinch a spot in the A-Sun Championship. It can also secure a berth with a Northern Kentucky loss or tie to Stetson.
But in order to keep its conference championship aspirations alive, Lipscomb must win its final two matches, coupled with a Stetson loss.
The Purple and Gold (10-3-1, 2-1-1 A-Sun) is currently riding it second three-game win streak of the season. In the last two weeks the Bisons have triumphs over North Florida (Oct. 18), Central Arkansas, (Oct. 21) and Longwood (Oct. 25).
Gearin has been a key contributor to the Bisons’ success offensively, scoring a career-high eight goals. He is tied for the league lead, while redshirt junior Matt Kerridge is just behind with seven scores.
Goalkeeper Nate Davis earned his first career league honor two weeks ago after recording his second clean sheet of the year. The freshman has pulled in 35 saves and allowed 14 goals. He is 8-1-1 in net.
In a battle with other schools of the A-Sun, the men’s soccer team has raised $700 for the American Cancer Society so far this season. The goal of the Bisons is to raise $1,500.
We are encouraging fans, if able, to please make a donation at the gate and with their generosity, the goal can become a reality.
The game can also be seen for free on ASun.TV.
