MACON, Ga. - Ivan Alvarado has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week for his efforts over the weekend for the Lipscomb men’s soccer team, as announced by the league on Monday.
Alvarado scored his first career game-winning shot in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over the four-time defending A-Sun champion Florida Gulf Coast. It was his third-career goal.
In the 60th minute Alvarado took the ball and with defenders swarming him the left-footed freshman hooked a shot past FGCU’s keeper inside the far post.
He finished the match with a game-high four shot attempts and two shots on goal.
The Fort Worth, Texas native is currently second in the league with seven assists on the season while his 13 total points rank sixth.
The honor is the first of Alvarado’s career, but the fourth such award for the Bisons this season.
Lipscomb returns to the pitch Saturday at 6 p.m. in Florida to take on Jacksonville in its regular season finale. With a win the Bisons will secure its first-ever A-Sun title. A victory would also give Lipscomb the No. 1 seed and the right to host the conference tournament next week.
