MACON, Ga. – For the second time in as many weeks, Lipscomb freshman Ivan Alvarado was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Sunday.
It marks the first time this season a player took home the honor in consecutive weeks.
On Saturday Alvarado had a helping foot in each of Lipscomb’s two goals in a 2-0 win over Jacksonville.
In the 65th minute the Texas native netted the eventual game-winner from five yards out. It was his fourth score of the season.
Four minutes later Alvarado served up Josue Chavez for an insurance tally. His eight assists this season rank second in the league.
Alvarado has been as hot as anyone in the A-Sun of late. He has scored in three of the last four matches, while also logging an assist in three of the last four.
Saturday’s match marked the third time this season the freshman has recorded a goal and an assist in the same game.
He ranks fourth in the A-Sun with 16 total points on the year.
The win over Jacksonville on Saturday secured Lipscomb a share of the A-Sun regular season championship and earned the Bisons the right to host the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed next week.
The honor is the second of Alvarado’s career.
