Men's soccer remains 5th in NSCAA Southeast Rankings

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team stayed put at No. 5 in the latest edition of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire Southeast Poll released on Tuesday (Nov. 11).

The Bisons moved from six to five in last week’s poll after reeling of a five-game win streak.

Lipscomb is coming off a 2-0 win over Jacksonville on Saturday in the regular season finale. The Bisons got a go-ahead score from freshman Ivan Alvarado in the 65th minute before Josue Chavez tacked on another three minutes later to preserve the win and give Lipscomb its first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference championship.

Lipscomb (12-3-1, 4-1-1 A-Sun) finished tied with Florida Gulf Coast with 13 points in league play.

With the win over FGCU on Nov. 1, the Bisons hold the tiebreaker and will serve as the No. 1 see and host of the A-Sun Championship at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex this week.

Lipscomb is one of four A-Sun teams in the poll – Stetson (7th), FGCU (8th) and North Florida (9th).

For the first time ever the Bisons have found a home in the rankings every week this season, debuting at No. 9 and reaching as high as No. 4 in week two.

Also on Tuesday Lipscomb received two votes in the NSCAA Top 25 poll for the second consecutive week.

In the latest RPI standing the Bisons not only came in ranked as the highest team in the A-Sun, but also the highest team in the state of Tennessee at No. 91.

Lipscomb returns to the pitch Friday night in the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament. As the No. 1 seed the Bisons will take on the winner of Wednesday’s No. 4 North Florida – No. 5 USC Upstate quarterfinals match. Game time is set for 7.

No. 2 FGCU will play the winner of No. 3 Stetson – No. 6 Northern Kentucky Friday at 4 p.m.
