KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team has seen recent success on the field, racking up numerous individual and team awards, but now that success seems to be spilling over into the classroom.
On Monday the Bisons were recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) by earning a Team Academic Award as one of 279 collegiate men’s programs to record an overall team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
Lipscomb boasted a 3.16 GPA for the 2013-14 academic calendar year.
“The successes we have enjoyed on the field and in the classroom are certainly related,” Lipscomb head coach Charles Morrow said. “We feel that success can’t be compartmentalized. This team has bought into the mindset of striving for excellence in everything they do.
“The idea of doing your best with what’s in front of you is an important concept for growth within our program and I am excited that this group is seeing results from their efforts.”
The NSCAA recognized 582 women’s teams for a total of 861 squads overall to capture the award, with 188 institutions having both its men’s and women’s programs earn the distinction.
In addition to its achievements in the classroom, Lipscomb enjoyed a successful season on the field this fall as the Bisons went 12-4-1 overall, marking the most wins in a single season in program history while also capturing its first-ever A-Sun regular season championship with a 4-1-1 mark in league play.
Lipscomb is one of four Atlantic Sun teams to receive the award. USC Upstate (3.19), Florida Gulf Coast (3.10) and North Florida (3.08) were the other three.
