NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb men's soccer team continues to raise the bar and set the new standard for the program after having two players earn individual awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Wednesday.
Senior defender Luke Gearin earned the school’s first-ever nod on the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire Division I All-Southeast Region first team while redshirt junior midfielder Matt Kerridge was named to the second team.
Lipscomb has never had more than one player selected NSCAA All-Region prior to this season, and the duo represents just the third and fourth selections in program history.
Gearin led the Bisons with a career-high eight goals this season on his way to earning All-Conference first team honors. All first-team selections are now eligible for NSCAA All-America consideration.
As the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year, Gearin also finished second on the team with 16 total points, also a career high.
Kerridge led Lipscomb with 17 points and finished just behind Gearin with seven scores. The Golden, Colorado native and first team All-Conference selection also added three assists to his total.
Kerridge struck two game-winners this season against USC Upstate and Central Arkansas.
Gearin and Kerridge were two of nine A-Sun athletes to earn All-Region honors with Gearin earning the lone first team honor.
The Bisons turned in a record-breaking 2014 season, setting the school record with 12 wins and winning the A-Sun regular season championship for the first time in program history.
Senior Omar Djabi was selected to the third team All-Southeast Region in 2013.
