Men's Soccer battles to 1-1 draw with Memphis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team drew even with Memphis, 1-1, on Sunday evening  to wrap up exhibition play at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

Sophomore Ivan Alvarado put the Bisons on top in the 34th minute when he took a pass from sophomore Logan Paynter and worked across the box, bringing the Memphis goalkeeper off his line, before striking the back of the net. It was Lipscomb's first goal of the preseason.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Memphis came out in the second half looking to extend its offense and in the 63rd minute Kenneth Kauker found an equalizer in the right side of the net.

Lipscomb had a chance to put the game away in the 87th minute when Paynter beat the Tigers' backline and got behind the goalie, but facing an open net Paynter struck it off the left post.

Kevin McMahon came off the bench and provided some spark for the Bisons offensivley. He finished the night tied with Paynter for a team high two shots.

Junior Micah Bledsoe got the nod between the pipes for the Bisons and in 76:37 minutes of action, he came up with three saves.

Lipscomb and Memphis both attempted 11 shots in the match and both put five on frame.

The Bisons wrapped their preseason with a 0-2-1 mark after dropping contests at No. 18 Louisville and Kentucky last week.

Lipscomb will kick off the 2015 regular season Friday Aug. 28 with a short road trip to Belmont for the Battle of the Boulevard. The match is slated for 7 p.m.
