MACON, Ga. – The accolades continue for Lipscomb’s Micah Bledsoe, as the junior goalkeeper was named the Atlantic Sun’s Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
On Monday Bledsoe was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for his efforts.
The Cincinnati native guided Lipscomb to a 2-1 win over No. 10 Xavier on Thursday, marking the highest ranked foe the Bisons have ever knocked off.
Entering the match Xavier possessed the nation’s most prolific offense, averaging five goals per outing, but on this night the only goal the Musketeers were able to put past Bledsoe came on a penalty kick.
Bledsoe finished the match with seven saves, just one off his career single-game high, after facing 13 shots and 11 corner kicks. He currently ranks second in the A-Sun with 12 stops on the year while his .667 save percentage is fourth.
He picked up his 12th-career win in net for the Purple and Gold, moving him into second place on the school’s all-time chart.
Bledsoe now has two career A-Sun weekly honors. His other came on Oct. 14, 2013 as a freshman.
Lipscomb returns to action this weekend when it ventures up the road to take park in the Belmont Invitational at E.S. Rose Park. The Bisons will take on Campbell Friday at 3:30 p.m. before facing off with Appalachian State on Sunday at 12:05 p.m.
