On Tuesday Lipscomb picked up three points in conference play with a come-from-behind, 3-2, win over the Jacksonville Dolphins at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. Although it has played one more game than Florida Gulf Coast, the win places Lipscomb atop the league standings with the Eagles.

Junior Kevin McMahon netted goals in both halves for his first-career multi-goal game. The scores were the second and third of his career.

Redshirt senior Matt Kerridge nailed the game-winner from 25-yards out in the 75th minute. It was his fourth goal of the year to tie Logan Paynter for the team lead. Junior Daniel Vieira finished the night with two assists.

The Phoenix got off to a 7-0 start this season before suffering setbacks to South Carolina and William & Mary on the road. They got back on track Wednesday with a 2-1 win over Northeastern in Colonial Athletic Association play.

Elon brings the nation’s ninth-best offense into the match, averaging 2.27 goals per contest on 14 shots per match. Its 25 total goals are the seventh most in the NCAA. The Phoenix have scored two or more goals six times this season.

Eduardo Alvarez, with four goals, leads a quintet that has scored at least three goals on the year. Jaiden Fortune paces the team with four assists to go along with his three scores. 17 players have recorded a point this season, combining for 69 as a team.

Defensively, Elon has allowed just 11 goals this season with opponents averaging 10.3 shots against them.

Goalkeeper Matthew Jegier , with a 1.00 GAA, has six shutouts in 11 starts in net. He has recorded 33 saves while facing 106 shots for a .750 save percentage.

Saturday’s contest will be just the second between the two programs in a series that dates back to 2012. Elon made a trip to Nashville to face the Bisons in the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational and came away with a 3-2 victory.

Lipscomb steps back into conference play with a road match at A-Sun leader, Florida Gulf Coast, next Saturday on Oct. 17. Kick off in Fort Myers is set for 6 p.m.
