Paynter named to College Soccer News Team of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb sophomore striker Logan Paynter was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week after guiding the Bisons to a big win in conference play last weekend.

The Bisons improved to 6-5-1 overall and 2-2 in ASUN Conference play with a 2-1 win over USC Upstate on Saturday.

Upstate took control early with a goal in the 16th minute and held its advantage midway through the second half until Paynter decided enough was enough.

The Bradenton, Florida native leveled the match in the 65th minute when he finished off a corner kick from close range, giving the Bisons a much-needed spark offensively.

With the clock ticking away and Lipscomb needing the three points, Paynter came through in the clutch once again. He teamed up with Ivan Alvarado in the 89th minute for a beautiful give-and-go that saw Alvarado flick the ball over the defenders to an unmarked Paynter who placed the game-winner just inside the left post.

Paynter leads the team and stands third in the ASUN with seven goals and 16 points. He has also chipped in two assists.

Saturday’s match marked the second multi-goal game of the season for Paynter and the third of his career.

Paynter’s 13 career goals are fifth-most in program history. He trails former Bisons Luke Gearin (15) and Omar Djabi (14), who are third and fourth respectively.

The Team of the Week is comprised of 11 players across the country that outshined all others at their respected positions. It marks the first time Paynter has been recognized by CSN.

The Bisons are back in action Tuesday for a 5 p.m. with UAB at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

A friendly reminder to all fans planning to attend the match: Parking will be at a premium and no spots will be available on campus due to the Dove Awards taking place in Allen Arena that evening.

You can park in the Stoke lot and walk to the field. Stokes is located on the west side of Belmont Boulevard and is just north of the Glen Echo intersection.
