TAMPA, Fla. – Wet weather and a lack of possession doomed the Lipscomb men’s soccer team on Monday night as the Bisons fell 3-0 against South Florida in Tampa.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve gotten beat that badly," said head coach Charles Morrow. "Number one they are a good team. I think that we didn’t deal well with some of the things they did tactically. The second half was a lot better and unfortunately we gave up two goals there."
A weather delay caused the game’s start time to be pushed back by more than an hour, and rain continued to fall steadily throughout the first half.
The home standing Bulls looked comfortable in the rain as they dominated possession and chances throughout the first half, finally culminating in a goal in the 28th minute.
While the rain slowed down in the second half, USF did not. A goal in the 51st minute doubled the Bulls lead and a capper in the 85th minute sealed the win.
"We are killing ourselves with some mistakes," said Morrow. "Those have to be eliminated. After a game like tonight, everyone has to look at themselves in a mirror, coaches included, and ask themselves what they can do better."
Overall, the Bulls dominated the scoresheet out shooting the Bisons 20-11. The visitors managed just three shots on goal and rarely threatened the USF net.
"It looked like we were a scared team tonight, said Morrow. "We were not the aggressor. Normally we are that team; tonight we weren’t"
The Bisons will look to bounce back on Saturday night at home against SIU-Edwardsville. Match time is 7:00pm.
