Sakou earns first men's soccer Player of the Week

LAKEPOINT, Ga. – Two dramatic goals earned senior forward Ivan Sakou the ASUN men’s soccer Player of the Week award on Monday.

Sakou had a career night in Friday night’s 3-2 2OT win over San Diego. Down 2-1 late in regulation, Sakou took a pass from Logan Paynter and drove it through multiple defenders to even the game and send it to overtime. Then in double overtime, the Cameroonian knocked in a header from the back post to win the game for the Bisons.

Not only was it the first two goal match of Sakou’s Lipscomb career, but he looked dangerous all night, shooting eight times, more than double his previous high in a Purple and Gold kit.

It’s the first ASUN Player of the Week award for Sakou despite registering six goals last year in his first year as a Bison. The two goals on Friday give Sakou three this season, the second most on the team behind Paynter’s four.

Sakou and the Bisons will take on UC Irvine on Monday night at 9 p.m. CT. To follow the action, live stats will be available.
